On August 18, 1920 the Tennessee State Legislature voted on the 19th Amendment regarding women’s suffrage. The ratification vote needed one more state’s approval to secure women’s right to vote. The state legislators who were against it wore red roses on their lapels and those who supported it wore a yellow rose. This stick pin represents the wearing of a yellow rose.
