Artist In Residence sponsored Workshop
Hand Building
Potters Martha McGinn and Wendy Everhart offered the AIR-sponsored workshop, Hand Building, on 28 July at ReMarketVT in St. Albans. This photo is the creative hand builders' vessels drying and waiting to be bisque-fired. Glazing will be done in the next class. Watch for them to come out of the Kiln!
We will be offering an AIR-sponsored pottery class focusing on versatile hand-building techniques using templates and forms.
This class is perfect for anyone interested in exploring their creativity and working with clay in a hands-on, joyful way.
In this class, we will delve into the fundamental methods of hand and slab building. You'll learn how to transform a simple lump of clay into beautiful, functional, and artistic pieces. From creating delicate bowls or trays and sturdy mugs to other decorative or functional items, the possibilities are truly endless!
This session will be a blend of guided instruction and open studio time, allowing you to experiment and develop your personal style. We will cover essential topics such as preparing the clay, joining techniques, and various surface treatments to add texture and detail to your creations. Additionally, we'll discuss the different types of clay, tools, and materials needed to get started and how to maintain and care for your pottery.
This class is suitable for beginners as well as those with some experience looking to refine their skills. Our supportive and friendly environment will encourage you to ask questions, share ideas, and enjoy the process of learning and creating together.
Maximum: 15 participants
Price per student: $60
This workshop is a fundraiser for The Artist In Residence Gallery.
